Water Analysis

Our water testing evaluates key minerals and other water properties that can affect taste, appearance, plumbing, and appliances.

What We Test For:

• Iron – may cause staining and metallic taste.
• Manganese – can cause black staining and bitter taste.
• pH – measures acidity or alkalinity; affects corrosion and taste.
• Hardness – caused by calcium and magnesium; can lead to scale buildup.
• TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) – overall mineral content in the water.
• Tannins/Lignins (Organic Matter) – can cause yellow or tea-colored water.
• Nitrates – often from fertilizers or runoff; high levels can affect health.
• Alkalinity – helps determine how stable your water’s pH is.

How to Collect a Water Sample:

1. Pick up a 500 mL sample bottle from our retail store, or use your own clean, sterilized bottle.
2. Run cold water for a few minutes to flush the line.
3. Fill your bottle to the fill line and seal it tightly.
4. Bring your sample to our office as soon as possible.

Regular water testing is important, even if your water looks or tastes fine because hidden minerals and organic matter can affect health, plumbing, and appliances.

Bacteria Testing

Our water testing in Langley also includes bacteria analysis, identifying E. coli and Coliform Bacteria, which can indicate contamination in your water supply.

What We Test For:

  • E. coli – may cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting; in serious cases, infection can lead to kidney failure.
  • Coliform Bacteria – may cause cold- or flu-like symptoms and gastrointestinal problems.

How to Collect a Bacteria Sample:

Bacteria samples are highly time-sensitive and must be collected using a specific sterile bottle from our retail store. These bottles contain sodium thiosulfate, which neutralizes chlorine to ensure accurate results. The sodium thiosulfate shows as small flecks in the bottle. Don’t rinse the bottle out before use, as it’s needed to perform the testing accurately.
Steps for collecting the sample:
1. Remove the screen from your faucet.
2. Wipe the tap with a disinfectant wipe.
3. Run cold water for a few minutes.
4. Carefully open the bottle without touching the inside of the lid or neck.
5. Fill to the fill line and cap immediately.
6. Return the sample to our office within the same day of collection. It must stay cold in your fridge until you deliver it to our water testing lab.

Bacteria samples are incubated for 24 hours, after which our water specialists review the results.

Receiving Your Results

Once testing is complete, we will email your results whether you had a water analysis or bacteria test. If any contaminates or unsafe water are found, we will call you immediately to inform you and let you know best treatment strategies.
